  • Principal's Update Autumn 2021

    Thu 23 Sep 2021

      23rd September 2021

    Dear Parents/Carers,

The start of the year for myself has been different and whilst I have not been around the school as much as I wanted to be, feedback from my senior team and staff is that the children have started the year well and a huge thank you to our parents for how amazing and ready the children are to learn.

I cannot write a thank you without also acknowledging our amazing pupils. Our EYFS pupils have been amazing; it is like they have always been here. They have settled really well. Most other pupils have returned keen to learn and to get back to a routine. Schools are no longer required to teach the children in rows and all our classrooms have reverted back to group seating – the children and staff are delighted with this.

There are a number of updates I would like to share with you:

    Remind of school routines

Thank you to all the parents for following our new procedures at the start and end of the day. Just to remind our parents that children can enter school at 8:30am for a ‘soft start’ to the day. Only parents of children in Reception and Year 1 can enter the playground in the morning. All parents can come onto the playground and collect their children from the classrooms at the end of the day.

On PE days, the children need to come into school in their school uniform. They will remain in this for the day so there is no need to bring in a change of clothes.

    Parent Information Events

During the week commencing 27th September, each year group will be holding parent information events to share with parents the procedures and expectations for the forth coming year. We strongly recommend parents to attend the events so you are able to support your children at home. Education is a partnership and research shows children who have support from home throughout their education do achieve well. Below are the timings:

    Year 1 – Monday 4:00pm - 4:45pm

    Year 2 – Monday 5:00pm – 5:45pm

    Year 3 – Tuesday 4:00pm – 4:45pm

    Year 4 – Tuesday 5:00pm – 5:45pm

    Reception – Wednesday 5:00pm – 5:45pm

    Year 5 – Thursday 4:00pm - 4:45pm

    Year 6 – Thursday 5:00pm - 5:45pm

As the meeting is held in the hall and to keep everyone safe, we will be requiring our parents to wear masks and sanitise hands before entering.

We have two further planned parent’s evenings that will take place in January and April. We have moved them to this time in the year as each child would have sat end of term assessments and we will be in a position to share progress and the next steps. These evenings are planned so we can discuss each child’s progress but should you have anything you want to discuss with the teachers before these dates, please do not hesitate to contact the teachers via email or on the playground at the end of the day.

    After School / Breakfast Provision

FunZone has now been running for a year and we will be reviewing the provision and accounts over the coming months. The school decided to run FunZone as our previous provided, BuzzKidz, were no longer prepared to run the provision at our school. FunZone and Breakfast Club are run by our staff using the school premises, but needs to be self-maintained and funded by the income from parents who use it; it cannot be funded by the school.

Should any of our parents wish to take advantage of the breakfast or afterschool provision, please contact the office.

    Mental Health and Wellbeing Day

Our vision at WHA is to educate the whole child; academically, emotionally, physically and socially. On the 15th of each month the whole school will dedicate a day to focus on Mental Health and Physical Wellbeing. Our first day in September was a great success.

As part of this, the children can wear their own clothes to school and throughout the day will take part in activities to promote and understand their mental and physical wellbeing.  Below are the dates for the rest of this year:

    Friday 15th October

    Monday 15th November

    Wednesday 15th December

On these dates, staff will also attend afterschool activities to support their mental health and wellbeing and professional development on how best to support the children’s mental health and wellbeing. Please note our after school provision will not run on these dates.

    Reminder - October Holiday Club

We are pleased to announce we will be running our holiday club for Years 1-6 from Tuesday – Thursday during the October half term. Information will be shared and you will need to book a space via ParentPay. Please note we are unable to accommodate our Reception children.

    COVID requirements in the classroom

There are still a few requirements we must do when the children are in the classroom. One of these is to keep the windows and doors open to ensure there is enough ventilation. This will happen whatever the weather so please can parents make sure your children are adequately dressed.

    Pupils Leaders

This year we have had lots of applications from the children in Year 6 and I am pleased to announce the following roles:

All these children play an important role in supporting the running of our school and supporting me to improve the education for all the children; a huge well done to them all!

Please continue to take care of each other and please do not hesitate to contact the office or speak to a member of SLT on the playground should you need support.
