Year 1

In Year 1 you will find , Miss Callis (1 Okogwu Teacher and acting year Leader), Miss Edwards (1 Rosen Teacher), Mrs Dungarwalla (1 Milne Teacher) and Miss Bemmer (Year Leader and 1 Milne Teacher currently on adoption leave ) as well as Mrs Madigan, Miss Stubbs, Mrs Sandhu, Mrs Latif, Miss Freeman and Mrs Ali who support across the year group. Mrs Parmley is the Vice Principal.

This year your child will start to follow the National Curriculum. Across the year, we will be studying 6 different topics in our Project Based Learning lessons - Percy the Park Keeper, All about the UK, Explorers, Fire Fire!, Exploring Art with Katie and we finish the year taking part in a whole school project. This is an exciting way to cover the more traditional subjects of Art, History and Geography (to name a few).

In June, Year 1 children take a phonics screening test. They will be doing daily phonics lessons throughout the year to teach them to read and support them with this test. It is vital that parents support their children with their learning and home and we welcome any questions that parents might have with this.

Year 1 is an exciting time as the children become familiar with a more formal way of learning. This is a time when we celebrate their learning with a lot of different experiences from day trips to celebratory events in school. At the end of the year, we want each Year 1 child to be ready to move on into Year 2 prepared for the exciting challenges that await them there.
