Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

We are looking forward to an exciting year that will build upon your child’s wonderful experiences and achievements in Early Years. The children will continue to access a rich environment that stimulates their curiosity and learning whilst keeping them safe and happy.

Year 1 is an exciting time as the children become familiar with a more formal way of learning. This is a time when we celebrate their learning with a lot of different experiences from day trips to celebratory events in school. At the end of the year, we want each Year 1 child to be ready to move on into Year 2 prepared for the exciting challenges that await them there.

The Year 1 team consists of;

Mrs Quinn - 1 Bryon Class Teacher and Year Team Lead

Miss Anwar - 1 Donaldson Class Teacher

Miss Reid - 1 Milne Class Teacher

Mrs Dungawalla - Year 1 HLTA

Miss Shakeel,  Mrs Siddiqui, Mrs French-Rainer

 Mrs Parmley - Vice Principal (Year 1, 2 and 3)

We aim to offer children in Year 1 inspiring, relevant topics that engage, motivate and challenge them. This year, your child will start to follow the National Curriculum. Across the year, we will be studying 6 different topics in our Project Based Learning lessons - The Tiny Seed, All about the UK, Explorers, Fire Fire!, Exploring Art with Katie and we finish the year taking part in a whole school project. This is an exciting way to cover the more traditional subjects of Art, History and Geography (to name a few).

Project Based Learning (PBL)

Project Based Learning (PBL) is an exciting part of the curriculum. Children enjoy completing their Project Passports at home with their family and are encouraged to share their work with senior leaders across the school. It is important that children are able to transfer the skills that they learn in other areas of the curriculum and are given plenty of opportunity to do this through their writing in PBL.

We strongly believe that communication between home and school is key. If you need to contact a member of the team, please do so using the following email address -

We look forward to working closely with you to ensure your children have a successful year.
