In the Musical Collectives, the children play a range of instruments such as the steel pans, the xylophones and glockenspiels, the electric pianos and guitars. They work collectively to learn how to develop important musical skills in order to perform entire pieces of music from memory.
In BoomBoxRadio, the children research, write and record radio shows that are made into podcasts and uploaded to mixcloud. They record a regular Musician of the Month, covering a range of musical genres and also themed shows based on curriculum matters and other current topics which the children learn about at school.
In the Steel Pan Club, the children learn how to play pieces of music from a specialist Steel Pan teacher. The children learn to play in the aural tradition, memorising all of their parts. They have the opportunity to perform at The Hexagon theatre in Reading with other schools across Berkshire that have learnt the same pieces of music.
THE MUSICAL COLLECTIVES
Sports Clubs
We have a range of activities that pupils from Year 1-6 can participate in through our after school clubs. Currently we work with Soccerin Schools and Get Sport Inspired.
Soccerin Schools provide football based sessions for all pupils in Years 1-4. The sessions they provide engage and entertain children by incorporating well-known characters and themes and activities that all children of all abilities can get involved with. In their sessions, they work on the children’s dribbling, passing and shooting skills through team and individual games and mini matches.
Get Sport Inspired provide a range of activities. They aim to inspire and give children the opportunity to have a positive experience of fitness and sport. Currently they are holding Archery sessions for Years 1-4 and providing fantastic and exciting sessions of Dodgeball for our Year 5-6.
SUMMER 2021
After Easter we commenced a programme of 26 varied social and physical clubs to support the social and physical skills of the children.
Have a look and see what happened in those clubs and the wonderful activities, creativity and fun that was shared by the children.
The clubs were a great success and enjoyed by all. Just look at this wonderful token of appreciation received from a parent in recognition of our fantastic Board Games Club.
