Meet Jessie - Our School Therapy Dog

We are delighted to introduce Jessie, our School Therapy Dog, who has become a very special member of the Western House Academy family.

Jessie is a 16-month-old St Berdoodle who has undergone an intensive training programme with PAWS. We are incredibly proud to share that Jessie passed her final assessment in June, shortly after her first birthday, making her one of the youngest dogs to successfully complete the programme and achieve this milestone.

Jessie’s role at Western House Academy is an important one. She supports children who may be finding certain aspects of school life difficult, whether they are feeling worried or overwhelmed, need some encouragement, or simply need a little bit of “Jessie time.” Her calm and friendly presence can help children to regulate their emotions, build confidence and feel ready to return to their learning.

Jessie also spends time with children through activities such as reading, providing a relaxed and non-judgemental companion who is always very happy to listen!

And Jessie’s support isn’t just for our pupils. Our staff benefit from a little Jessie time too!

Jessie brings something very special to our school community and is another way in which we support the wellbeing and happiness of everyone at Western House Academy.
