Week 7

Hello Year 4! Here are your activities for this week. Remember to read the activity carefully and do your best. If you need help, ask someone at home. You are all doing a fantastic job and thank you for sharing your learning with us - please keep sending us your work using the email addresses below:

viceprincipal34wha@theparkfederation.org

year4wha@whatpfat.com

We will respond to emails as promptly as possible but please allow 24 hours as we are receiving a large volume of messages each day!

Study Guides - Please collect your Maths and Comprehension study guides from school if you have not done so already. We are still using the Grammar study guide that was given out before the school closed.

Extra Maths During Lockdown

Some parents have been asking for more work for their child/ren. White Rose Maths is a scheme that some of our year groups already follow and they are providing daily maths work for children from Early Years - Year 8. Please follow the link below and click on the year group of your choice - you will then need to follow the instructions on that screen. Please be patient as this website does sometimes crash when there are too many people across the country trying to access it as it is such a great resource. Please note that there are no extra sheets available but during the video, there are chances for the child to practise what is being taught and then the teacher will go over through it.

Support with Accelerated Reader.

We are pleased to see many of you using Accelerated Reader but know some of you have had some problems.  Here are some instructions to help you out.  We have also included the texts on the Read-on website with details of their ZPD level to hopefully make it easier for you to use.

Year 4 Suggested Timetable for Home Learning

Weekly Writing Activity for All

To write a repetitive poem using the poem ‘Magic Box’ by Kit Wright as a model.

This week English, comprehension and SPAG will be combined. Using the government approved learning platform- Oak Academy. Children will progress through the series of lessons, in which each lesson will take around an hour a day.  Within each lesson there is a video to watch of a teacher and activities for children to do, finishing off with spellings. These videos are well structured and very child friendly, they just need access to the website, pencil and their book. By the end of this week, children will have a spelling test on the words they have learnt throughout the week. They will also have written their own repetitive poem on day 5.

Day 5 additional help:

  • You need to start each verse with the same phrase. You might want to keep ‘I will put into my box’ or you can change it to something else.
  • Each verse has a focus. Verse 1 of Magic Box is based on mythical, and verse 2 focus is on nature.  The teacher in day 5 has given you some example nouns you can use in your verses, or use your own nouns based on the theme of the verse i.e. mythical/ nature.
  • Remember to use similes, metaphors, expanded noun phrases and onomatopoeia

If you are really struggling to create your own, you can up level the original poem and change the adjectives, nouns and similes.
