Week 6

Extra Maths During Lockdown

Some parents have been asking for more work for their child/ren. White Rose Maths is a scheme that some of our year groups already follow and they are providing daily maths work for children from Early Years - Year 8. Please follow the link below and click on the year group of your choice - you will then need to follow the instructions on that screen. Please be patient as this website does sometimes crash when there are too many people across the country trying to access it as it is such a great resource. Please note that there are no extra sheets available but during the video, there are chances for the child to practise what is being taught and then the teacher will go over through it.

Writing

Listen to Pie Corbett telling the story of ‘The Papaya that Spoke.’

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSiIMqzd4dQ

(Parents – please supervise)

Now can you create your own version of the story.  You can change the papaya to another fruit. You can change the farmer to someone else. Also you can change the dog, fish, goat and the king to other characters.

Make your writing interesting by using powerful verbs, conjunctions and suffixes.

I have changed the following:

the farmer to an old man

the papaya to a mango

the dog to a cat

the fish to a chicken

the goat to a cow

the king to a queen

e.g: Hundreds of years ago, there lived an old man in a little cottage. One day he felt hungry so he ventured ouside to pick a juicy mango from his garden.

You will also find the PowerPoint Presentation of the story on Week 6.

1.30-2.30pm

Creative Time

Make a ramp out of a book with a chopping board, or piece of card from a cereal box for a toy car to move down.

Try a variety of toy cars to roll down the ramp.

How far will each one go?

Measure how far and find out which vehicle goes the furthest. Make a simple chart with this information e.g. the red car rolled 10cm after the ramp.
