Week 5

Thursday 7th May

Good morning. Tomorrow is a bank holiday and so there will be no work set. Look out for your teacher's letter later today to hear what everyone has been up to. We hope that you enjoy the VE Day celebrations. Tonight we will be clapping for our carers - do you do this too? Maybe you do it a bit earlier in the day if 8pm is too late for you. Take care and stay safe.

Writing

Since the lockdown has started, we are at home. Think of one day and write a letter to your teacher (either to Mrs Ghosh, Mrs Khural, Miss Cranfield or Mrs Rolfe) about what you did on that day. Think of:

  • A fun/creative activity that you did with your family.
  • Did you spend most of your time in the garden?
  • Did you help an adult with cooking?
  • What games did you play?
  • Did you read any books?
  • Did you listen to music? Did you sing or dance?
  • Did you get up late in the morning? Were you feeling a bit lazy?

Make it as interesting and engaging as you can using adjectives, conjunctions and suffixes.

E.g.:

Dear Mrs Rolfe,

How are you? I am missing school but I am having a good time with my family. Would you like to know about one of my fun days since the lockdown has started?

It was last Saturday when I was still dozing in my comfy bed even at 8 O’clock. My brother knocked on the door, shouting, “Tim, breakfast is ready and we are waiting for you.” Reluctantly, I got out of my cosy bed and plodded downstairs to the dining room. I could see the stack of freshly made pancakes drowned in the yellow maple syrup.  My eyes twinkled. I love pancakes! Do you like pancakes?

1.30-2.30pm

Creative Time

Make a list of things that you like to eat hot then another for things you like to eat cold or frozen.  Is that the same for everyone in your home?

Tuesday 5th May

The weather is going to get better this week so that is something for us to look forward to. Have you tried any of the '100 Challenges' yet. Have a look as there are lots to pick from and Mrs Parmley would love to see photos of you doing them - don't forget that there are a few spaces for you to add to it. Just message Mrs Parmley and she will add it to the list. Have a lovely day.

Writing

Listen to Pie Corbett telling the story of ‘Papaya that Spoke.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSiIMqzd4dQ

Parents – please supervise whilst using YouTube.

Now write the same story.

Make your writing interesting by using expanded noun phrases and coordinating conjunctions:  and, or, so and but.

E.g.: Once upon a time, there lived a farmer in a small village. One day he felt hungry so he went outside to pick a juicy papaya.

You will also find the PowerPoint Presentation of the story on Week 5.

1.30-2.30pm

Creative Time

Make some ice cubes in the freezer.

  • What has changed now that the water has changed into ice?
  • Does it look the same?
  • Does it feel the same?
  • How long can you hold an ice cube in your hand before it is too uncomfortable?
  • Now try it in your mouth?
  • Can you time yourself?
  • Who is the bravest in your family?
