Year 4
Journey into the Jungle: The Living Rainforest Experience
The annual visit to The Living Rainforest is a core part of our program, serving as a vital and exciting extension of our geography studies, particularly the unit exploring the theme: 'Why are rainforests important to us?'
Our trip always begins with a fascinating guided tour of the indoor rainforest. This experience is anchored by an engaging talk focused on Animal and Plant Adaptations, where students learn first hand how life forms have evolved to thrive in this unique, humid environment. Our students consistently demonstrate impressive knowledge, often surprising the guides by showcasing the prior learning they've gained in the classroom.
Following the structured talk, the students are given dedicated free time to explore the vibrant rainforest environment in their groups. This exploration allows them to apply their learning, observe different climate zones, and seek out the elusive wildlife that calls the centre home. While the chance to spot famous residents—like the notoriously elusive sloth—is a thrilling part of the search, the true prize is the invaluable experience of seeing a delicate ecosystem brought to life.
This visit is a consistently powerful day of discovery, reinforcing the importance of biodiversity and conservation through a truly immersive, hands-on experience.
