Nursery

For Nursery’s 10 by 10 experience, we had the pleasure of having 10 eggs delivered by Living Eggs. Our first task was to ensure the incubator was set up correctly. Over the first two days, we patiently waited for some movement. On Wednesday we were delighted to see some cracks in the eggs, and during the day all 10 chicks hatched out of their eggs! The children were so excited and every child was able to witness at least one of the chicks hatching which was incredible! 

Over the next week and a half, we were able to observe them as they became stronger and grew in size. During the second week, we were able to each have a turn holding and petting the chicks - the children were very brave and held them with great pride and care. 

During this experience, the children’s language development was impressive! There were so many opportunities to develop their communication as they asked questions, made comments about the changes they could see and were retelling what the chicks were doing in their home. Alongside this, the children also learnt the importance of taking care of an animal; knowing how they needed to be cleaned, fed and given water everyday to keep strong. Many of the children made comparisons to their own pets and how they take care of them at home. 

Overall, the experience was a brilliant opportunity for the children and they gained immense pleasure from taking care of them!
